IMPROVING DESCRIPTIVE WRITING ABILITY THROUGH PROBLEM BASED LEARNING MODEL USING LIVEWORKSHEET OF THE STUDENTS IN CLASS X MIA 3 AT SMA NEGERI 1 NUNUKAN

Abstract

This study is a Class Action Research (PTK) that aims to find out how the use of Liveworksheet media uses the PBL Learning Model (Problem Based Learning) to improve the ability to write descriptive English text in students of class X MIA 3 SMA Negeri 1 Nunukan. The study was conducted collaboratively and participationally carried out in two cycles. Data collection in this study was conducted using participant observation and written tests (pre test and post test).

Based on the results of the study concluded that using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model can improve the ability to write descriptive text in English students.  This is supported by research data that shows an increase in the percentage completion of written tests conducted at the second meeting in each cycle. At the time of pre-cycle, the completion of students was only 6.7%, after the test post with Liveworksheet media, the percentage of completion of student learning ability was 93%.

The use of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model has been shown to improve the ability to write descriptive text in English students of class X MIA 3 SMA Negeri 1 Nunukan School year 2020/2021. Student's ability to write descriptive text before and after learning using the PBL (Problem Based Learning) model has increased. This is supported by research data that shows an average increase in post-test results.

In this study, the authors used liveworksheet media. The advantages of using liveworksheet media as an application or interactive media in English learning are 1)  have many choices to make some type of student’s worksheet that can be made; 2) make it easier for educators to create varied quizzes; 3) Effective to review the understanding of learners; 4) Interactive learning and more fun 5) Able to improve students' descriptive text writing skills in English. The disadvantage of this Liveworksheet media is that quiz makers (authors) need a stable internet network. Because in its use it cannot be offline.
